A great part of any family heritage is the recipe file handed down from generation to generation. Two years ago my family compiled a cookbook of recipes from various branches of our family and a few favorites borrowed from friends. Of course not all these suggested recipes worked out well – the spinach balls recipe from family friend Faye Huntington was a disaster! And, no, we did not include it.
The most enjoyable part of the project was how it brought all the generations together. The recipes from some previous generations included “putting it on the fire.” The youngest contributor is my now 12-year-old great-nephew Adam. So we have both ‘golden oldies’ and new concoctions.
Are you looking for a project to bring the family together? This fun idea took us all year to compile, complete with family stories and photos. You’ll see some examples in the days that follow.
Looking forward to reading more of your eclectic mix. And to seeing what you’ve done with the cookbook.
