I come from the Great Pacific Northwest, about 90 miles south of Seattle and returned to my hometown in the Summer of 2019.

In the Fall of 2012,  several friends challenged me to start a blog.  But I didn’t know what to write about.

My father always said that I was cursed with being a generalist – I am interested in everything.  So the consistent thing you can expect from this site is inconsistency, at least as far as subject is concerned.  I’ll try to post every other week, but maybe more.  As for the topics, think the universe . . . .   If it exists, I may write about it, and if it doesn’t exist, I may write about that as well.

For polite conversation, the sage advice says to avoid religion and politics.  I’m not very politically correct, so you can expect both, and maybe the weather too.

Please comment on the posts.  Dialogue is healthy.  And I love questions!

I graduated from the University of Washington Business School and then Law School. After graduation, I entered the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps where I served in the Philippines, Washington DC, and USS HUNLEY (AS 31) based in Holy Loch, Scotland. After military service, I returned home where I primarily practiced criminal and family law for 10 years.

While working as a public defender, I became increasingly frustrated while representing repeat offenders and multiple generations in the same family.  I felt like I was just putting band-aids on people’s problems and not making a real difference.  I didn’t know how to use my position to help them spiritually as well as legally — or that such an approach was even possible!

So, believing that God really can change lives, in 1995 I quit my law practice, went to seminary and graduated with a Master of Theology degree in 1999 from Dallas Theological Seminary.

I was on staff with Cru, the U.S. ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ, for 22 years until I retired in November 2021.

God has called me to use both my legal skills and theological training.
