When I lived in the dorms at the University of Washington, I was addicted to late night TV. Just to date myself, this was the era of Johnny Carson and I saw the streaker run past the cameras.
My first class was not until 10:30 am and I didn’t have much to do once I finished my homework. So I turned on the boob tube, an old black and white portable with rabbit ears.
I realized that I was getting addicted to late night TV and wasting time rather than doing something productive. Relaxing is one thing, but . . . .
So I decided to pray about it. I was a new Christian and took God at his word. He said he could and would help if we just asked. I asked God to help me overcome this problem.
I prayed on Thursday night and went home for the weekend on Friday afternoon. When I got back on Sunday afternoon, my roommates met me with gloomy expressions. Oh no! Something bad must have happened.
They told me that they left our door unlocked when they went to breakfast Saturday morning and someone came into our rooms. Nothing else was taken, but . . .
You guessed it! My TV was stolen.
You can imagine their surprise when I laughed loudly. God had indeed taken care of the problem, albeit in a way I had never imagined.
God didn’t cause this person to burglarize our rooms. I’m sure they already had that proclivity. But He did allow them to pursue their avocation for my “benefit.”
Who says God doesn’t have a sense of humor? We just don’t look for it.
Have you ever had a funny experience that God used in your life? Please share it in the comments.

Love it!
He most assuredly does! Just look at the body He has here on earth! We’re a gnarly bunch, with oddities in each of us that we all struggle to accept. What I love is how He insists on putting people in our lives that annoy us. The same ones! His lessons are gentle, but He is persistent and gracious. I’m still laughing that they stole your TV. That’s tantamount today to swiping someone’s cell phone!
