This past weekend I went with friends to Renninger’s Extravaganza in Mount Dora, FL. This event is a paradise for anyone shopping for antiques. I bought some Christmas presents for family and had a great time.
The sale is also a great place to take photographs of unusual items. In some ways it was depressing to see the old dishes, wooden potty chairs, broken toys, battered furniture, bullet-pierced road signs, and other flotsam of times gone by.
But, as the saying goes, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” I was amazed at how some of the items had been transformed. These things no longer served their old purpose, but now were “re-purposed.”
Sometimes we discard people. Just as we toss out our old, broken, worn-out or “useless” things, we may give up on people as well.
But as the old saying goes, “God doesn’t make no garbage.”
God knows how He intended us to be, so He takes our junky, broken lives and transforms us from caterpillars into butterflies, and makes us look beautiful.
When I work in prisons, so often the ladies don’t believe that God loves them and actually cares about what happens to them. When they finally understand that God offers forgiveness and a relationship with Him, I can actually see the light of hope turn on in their eyes.
So, what about you? Do you need a “Make-over”?
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17
